St. Louis Jazz Orchestra @West Plains Civic Center

Details: St. Louis' premier big band makes its debut in West Plains. The St. Louis Jazz Orchestra, directed by Jim Widner features the finest players in the St. Louis metro area. Led by bassist and educator Jim Widner, the St. Louis Jazz Orchestra draws a wide repertoire from Duke Ellington and Count Basie to contemporary arrangers Gordon Goodwin and Bob Florence. This band was featured at the St. Louis Jazz Fest and performs regularly to packed houses at "Jazz At the Bistro" in Grand Center. "It's a true labor of love to put a big band together. Tommy Sands Trio Concert @West Plains Civic Center

Details: Tommy Sands, County Down's singer, songwritre and social activist has achieved something akin to legendary status in his own lifetime. From the pioneering days with the highly influential Sands Family, bringing Irish Music from New York's Carnegie Hall to Moscow's Olympic Stadium, he has developed into one of the most powerful songwriters and enchanting solo performres in Ireland today. His sonwriting, which draws the admiration of Nobel Poet Laureate Seamus Heaney and "father of folk music" Pete Seeger, prompts respected Us magazine "Sing Out" to regard him as "the most powerful songwriter in Ireland, if not the rest of the world".

Details: Free Admission. Springfield Little Theater's Y.E.S. (Youth Entertainment Series) Troupe will present a variety show of entertainment for all age groups, including solo performances, short scenes, improvised sketches, and ensemble musical theatre numbers (from shows such as "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat," "Hairspray," "Beauty and the Beast," "The Music Man," "High School Musical," etc.). The troupe is composed of 35 semi-professional young adults who aspire to pursue careers in theatre. This performance is part of the Greater Ozarks Art Tour, a project of the Springfield Regional Arts Council sponsored by the Community Foundation of the Ozarks.

Ha Ha Tonka @West Plains Civic Center

Details: Foot stompin' indie rock. Now based in Kansas City, MO., three of Ha Ha Tonka's band members hail from West Plains. The band specializes in disarming and effortless anthems that owe as much to high and lonesome Ozarks mountain music as chugging college rock. The band released its debut album, Buckle in the Bible Belt, to much acclaim in 2007, gaining praise from glossies like Paste and Spin, and taste-making radio stations like KEXP. At years end, Popmatters Magazine named Buckle in the Bible Belt one of the best albums of 2007. Ha Ha Tonka was also a featured performer at the 2008 Lollapalooza and Sundance Film Festivals, and toured the U.S. with Someone Still Loves You Boris Yelstin, The Meat Puppets and Old 97's. www.hahatonkamusic.com Admission is $8; $5 Seniors/ 13 & Under.
