The West Plains Christmas Parade has been postponed due to the threat of inclement weather, announced Jessica Collins, Executive Director for the Greater West Plains Area Chamber of Commerce.
The parade was originally scheduled for this Saturday, December 8th at 4:00 p.m.
As of 2:00 p.m. Thursday, a high of 34 degrees was forecasted for Saturday, with a mix of rain/ice and possible accumulation of up to 4 inches of snow. According to Director Collins, “The Chamber of Commerce considered predicted weather conditions, safety and the “general ability of the public to travel and enjoy a parade in inclement weather” in making the decision to postpone. “Safety is always our most important concern in any of our events”.
The parade is rescheduled for Saturday, December 15th at 2:00 p.m. “Many of our parade entries have put a lot of time and resources into creating their floats, so instead of just cancelling, we have rescheduled. Please note the new time of the parade. The Chamber is hopeful that moving the time back will allow citizens to enjoy the parade and then head downtown to the Square for the inaugural Downtown in December Festival.
Floats may enter the line-up at 2nd & Minnesota Ave. any time after 11:00 a.m. on the 15th. Entries wanting to be judged need to be line up by 12:30 p.m. Entries not in the line-up by 12:30 will not be judged. Participants are encouraged to contact the Chamber office at 417-256-4433 if they have any questions.
